Steve Pearce declared his candidacy Tuesday for reelection to New Mexico’s Second Congressional District.

“Day after day, our federal government demonstrates through action that it no longer serves the people but instead it is looking out for itself and the special interests,” said Pearce. “I will continue holding Washington accountable to the people of New Mexico.”

Pearce’s campaign filed more than 3,000 petitioned signatures with his declaration. The required number to qualify for the ballot is 489.

Last year, Pearce’s campaign received contributions from 997 New Mexicans. His staff reports a $1 million budget for his reelection effort.

“I am proud to have stood up for veterans against an uncaring VA,” said Pearce. “I am proud to have defended the property rights of farmers and ranchers from a runaway bureaucracy. I am every day fighting to get our southern New Mexico economy growing again and the deficit under control.

“As always, I will put New Mexico first. I have opposed the Washington Republicans when they have been wrong. And I have opposed the Washington Democrats when they are wrong. With the support of the people of the Second District, I will keep doing just that.”
