The Eddy County Sheriff’s Office’s detective division, along with agents with the New Mexico State Police, has been working this week to verify the registrations of sex offenders in Eddy County.

As part of the Sex Offender Verification Operation, agents and detectives have personally verified more than 75 percent of the registered sex offenders’ home addresses and personal information, according to ECSO Chief Deputy Mark Cage, for the purpose of ensuring offenders are in compliance with New Mexico state law.

The operation will continue until all offenders’ information has been verified.

The ECSO lists the current number of registered offenders in Eddy County as approximately 97.

According to the state’s searchable sex offender database at nmsexoffender.com, there are currently 17 offenders residing in Artesia and 50 in Carlsbad.
