    STANFORD, Calif. (AP) — The Denver Broncos and Carolina Panthers wrapped up preparations for Super Bowl 50 with spirited practices Friday with nearly perfect performances from Peyton Manning and Cam Newton.

    Kidnapped cab driver recalls ordeal with California inmates

    WESTMINSTER, Calif. (AP) — A 74-year-old California taxi driver expected to die when an escaped jail inmate put a gun to his stomach and kidnapped him. But on Wednesday, the driver instead thanked the man for saving his life.

    Fight over hostage’s fate broke up California jail escapees

    SANTA ANA, Calif. (AP) — An inmate who led authorities on an eight-day manhunt after escaping from an Orange County jail got his trial on kidnapping and torture charges delayed Tuesday as his lawyer raised concerns about his ability to find an unbiased jury to hear the case.

    1 escaped inmate caught, 2 sought in Northern California

    SANTA ANA, Calif. (AP) — After a week with SWAT raids and a gang dragnet, it was an observant citizen who led police to the two remaining violent fugitives who broke out of a California jail eight days ago using a Google Earth map and a rope made of bed linens.
