• Rutgers coach: Didn’t know of investigation when contacted

    PISCATAWAY, N.J. (AP) — Rutgers coach Kyle Flood said Wednesday that when he was contacted by university officials about communicating with a faculty member regarding the academic status of a player, he didn’t know he was being investigated for possibly violating school or NCAA rules.

    EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. (AP) — Two-time Pro Bowl defensive end Osi Umenyiora has retired as a member of the New York Giants.

  • Teen becomes first to swim 20 miles through New York Bight

    SEA BRIGHT, N.J. (AP) — In a story Aug. 25, The Associated Press reported that teenager Charlotte Samuels was the first person to swim a course of just over 20 miles through what’s known as the New York Bight. The story should have included background about Patricia Sener, who swam 17 miles through the New York Bight in July.
