    Michigan’s Snyder under siege over racial impact of strategy

    LANSING, Mich. (AP) — When Gov. Rick Snyder was elected in 2010, he bragged about being a “tough nerd” who’d use his business background to fix Michigan’s sagging economy and debt-wracked cities. He led Detroit through the largest municipal bankruptcy in U.S. history. He cut corporate taxes. He was mentioned as a possible presidential candidate.

    Obama visiting Flint for first time since water crisis began

    FLINT, Mich. (AP) — Sipping filtered city water to show it’s again drinkable, President Barack Obama promised Wednesday to ride herd on leaders at all levels of government until every drop of water flowing into homes in Flint, Michigan, is safe to use.

  • Man acquitted in football player slaying awaiting sentencing

    ANN ARBOR, Mich. (AP) — A 23-year-old man who was acquitted of murder and other charges in the 2013 robbery and killing of Eastern Michigan University wide receiver Demarius Reed is free while awaiting sentencing in an unrelated Detroit shooting.

    Ex-Michigan State player Keith Appling faces weapons charges

    DEARBORN, Mich. (AP) — Former Michigan State basketball player Keith Appling was charged Wednesday with carrying a concealed weapon and other crimes after being found in possession of guns and marijuana in suburban Detroit, according to authorities.

    Teacher sick-outs close most Detroit schools for a 2nd day

    DETROIT (AP) — Teachers who closed Detroit schools for two days by calling out sick announced Tuesday that they would return to the classroom after receiving assurance from the district’s manager that they would be paid.
