Harken races in Mountain Top Derby

New Mexico-bred Harken and jockey Sergio Becerra Jr., the 2-1 morning line favorite in Saturday’s running of the Mountain Top Derby, will race for more than a trophy and the winner’s share of the $200,000 purse.

Artesia General opens medical assistant program

Artesia General Hospital (AGH) announced the next class for its Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) Program, a nationally accredited nine-month hybrid training course through the AGH Advanced Learning Center. Designed to prepare students for healthcare environments, the program will begin September 2025, and is now accepting applications through Friday, July 3, 2025.

Political Twist streaks to victory

RUIDOSO DOWNS – Trainer Xavier Rodriguez and the ownership group led by La Feliz Montana Ranch continued their winning ways June 8 at Ruidoso Downs Race Track as their 2-year-old quarter horse Political Twist scored a length and a half victory in the $1 million Ruidoso Futurity.

Artesia boys’ basketball holds its annual camp 

Artesia boys’ basketball coach Michael Mondragon held his 11th annual basketball camp this week at the Bulldog Pit. Mondragon said 141 basketball campers participated in half-court and full-court scrimmages and worked on skills such as free-throw shooting, layups and defensive rebounding.
