Artesia’s record-breaking streak of triple-digit temperatures has finally come to an end.

The city passed Roswell’s run of 18 consecutive days with temperatures at 100 degrees or higher last week, and as of Monday, Artesia’s stretch had reached 23 days.

Rainfall and cloudy skies in the area over the past few days, however, helped cool things down. The New Mexico State University Ag Science Center reported Tuesday’s high was only 95 – by no means cool by majority standards but a welcome respite for Artesians, particularly those enjoying the Eddy County Fair.

Temperatures are expected to remain in the 90s through next week.
