A Roswell man wanted in connection with a Bernalillo County murder was located and arrested Sunday by the Roswell Police Department and its SWAT team.

Ferral Martin Wheeler, 30, was taken into custody on Bernalillo County warrants for murder and aggravated battery. He was arrested around 2 a.m. Sunday following an attempted traffic stop by an officer who recognized him. Wheeler failed to stop, speeding away from the officer.

The RPD received information Wheeler may be staying at a residence in the 1100 block of Kenlea Drive and found the vehicle he had been driving in an adjacent alley. A neighbor reported seeing the driver run into the backyard of the residence in question.

The property was surrounded and SWAT called. Wheeler was eventually found hiding in tall weeds in a side yard. A handgun was also found nearby.
