2-7-BBBSThe 2016 signature fundraising event for Big Brothers, Big Sisters (BBBS) of Southeastern New Mexico, Bowl for Kids’ Sake, will be held in Artesia this year.

Each child involved with BBBS is paired with a “Big,” an adult who serves as a role model and friend.

The fundraiser will aid BBBS in helping local children who are living in single-parent homes, growing up in poverty, or coping with parental incarceration by influencing aspects of their education, providing stability, and pushing them to set higher life goals.

BBBS is seeking teams to participate in Bowl for Kids’ Sake, a celebratory party held at Artesia Lanes, where no bowling expertise is required.

This year’s Bowl for Kids’ Sake theme is inspired by Lewis Carroll’s novel “Alice in Wonderland,” where the slogan is “every adventure requires a first step” and costumes are encouraged.

“The slogan for this year’s Bowl for Kids’ Sake has an important message behind it,” said Stacy Heacox, match supervisor for BBBS and Bowl for Kids’ Sake fundraising coordinator. “Becoming a big brother or a big sister is a huge adventure for those adults, and we want people to support us in creating adventures for those children.”

Heacox is asking the Artesia community to pick up a $10 pledge form and select five people for a team. Each team member will be asked to acquire 10 $10 pledges to raise a total of $500 per team. Currently, Bowling for Kids’ Sake has about 10 teams signed up, but according to Heacox, BBBS could easily sign up another 10 teams.

The deadline for assembling teams is Feb. 19, and the event is scheduled for Saturday, March 5, at Artesia Lanes, 1701 Tumbleweed Road. To register online, visit www.bbbssenm.org/event/bfks.php or contact Heacox at 910-1882 or 627-2227.
