TO THE EDITOR:

Grammy’s House, Artesia Domestic Violence Shelter, would like to thank the community of Artesia for always being there for us. Your continued support in everything we do has made our agency one of the best in the state. We continue to be blessed by so many people who always think of us first when they have good, serviceable items they would like to donate, and more times than we can count, we have received just the item we needed when we needed it!

When we operated Grammy’s Closet we took all kinds of donations and had staff there to help sort it and get it ready for resale. Since closing the store front we have been receiving donations at our offices. Two years ago we put in a drop off bin at the offices to try to contain the donations that came after hours and on the weekends. It worked for a while but for the past several months we have been faced with another problem. The driveway and bin on Ninth Street has become a drop off point for junk and trash.

Many days we have come to the office and there were huge piles of items that seem to have been left over from a garage sale or storage clean outs. We have a limited number of staff and we had to divert some to spend their time cleaning this up instead of assisting our clients.

This has been a very difficult decision for us but we have decided to remove the bin and will no longer accept donation drop offs. PLEASE DO NOT LEAVE ANY DONATIONS AT GRAMMY’S OFFICES. If you have gently used items such as clothing, household linens or small appliances we will gladly accept those donations by appointment only during business hours. Call 748-1198.

Thank you for your understanding.
