ARTESIA — The Artesia Public Schools 5 Mill Election was held Tuesday, and voters have chosen to continue paying a mill levy tax to support Artesia schools.

A total of 732 votes were cast — 699 in favor of the tax and 33 opposed. Money collected from the tax goes to local schools for maintenance, building improvements and technology upgrades.

“We’re very appreciative of the community’s continued support for our schools. We take the responsibility of spending the community’s dollars very seriously. Each dollar will be spent prudently with the intention of providing the best and safest environment to facilitate student success,” said superintendent of Artesia Public Schools Mike Phipps.

No tax increases will be seen as a result of this election, as this is a continuation of a tax already in place.
