Washington State women pull away from Utah 63-54

Technology improves avalanche gear for backcountry skiers

SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — As outdoor recreation companies increasingly cater to skiers and snowboarders who like to venture beyond the groomed slopes at ski resorts and tackle backcountry terrain, they’ve put a special emphasis on gear and equipment to keep people safe in case of avalanches.

PARK CITY, Utah (AP) — An Academy Award nomination is an incomparable stamp of approval for any film — and for an indie feature coming out of the Sundance Film Festival, in some cases, it’s a downright miracle.

Yosemite climber says he hopes historic feat inspires others

SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Kevin Jorgeson’s hands still bear souvenirs from the historic climb Dawn Wall of El Capitan he completed with his partner last week. The scabs on his fingertips are so thick that track pads on computers and phones don’t register his touch.
