NEW YORK (AP) — The darling of the U.S. Open, 15-year-old CiCi Bellis, opened her pursuit of the junior girls’ crown with a 6-1, 6-3 victory over Mexico’s Renata Zarazua.

NEW YORK (AP) — Americans Bob and Mike Bryan advanced to the quarterfinals of the U.S. Open doubles Monday, downing countrymen Bradley Klahn and Tim Smyzek 6-3, 7-6 (5).

Bad weather shuts down concerts, delays flights

PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Severe thunderstorms across the Northeast on Sunday slowed operations at airports, wreaked havoc at outdoor sporting and musical events in New York and Philadelphia and sent people scurrying from a beach after three men were struck by lightning.
