Egypt says citizens free to join fight in Syria

CAIRO (AP) — In a story June 13 about the Egyptian presidency’s position on citizens joining the fight in Syria, The Associated Press erroneously quoted the president’s foreign affairs adviser as saying, “We are no longer a center for rendition, or punishing Egyptians for what they do in other countries.” The correct quote is “We are no longer a center for rendition, or a center for punishing Egyptians for other nations or other countries.”

BEIRUT (AP) — Syrians are being killed at an average rate of 5,000 per month, the U.N. said Thursday as it raised the overall death toll in the civil war to nearly 93,000, with civilians bearing the brunt of the attacks.
