The Roswell Federal Court House was evacuated for nearly an hour today after individuals in the Social Security office reported a “medical scare.”

According to Roswell Fire Chief James Salas, his department received a report of some type of “scare” at about mid-morning in the Social Security office. “The call came in as a guy who was vomiting and had nausea and a headache; possibly having a seizure,” Salas told the Daily Press this morning.

When Roswell EMTs arrived, Salas said they found the man, who was unconscious and vomiting, as well as several people in the same office who were producing similar symptoms. The entire building was evacuated as a precaution.

“We went in and looked, but we couldn’t find anything with our monitors. We didn’t find any suspicious packages or any suspicious materials; nothing of that sort,” he said.

According to Salas, the situation was under control and work at the building resumed to normal within about 45 minutes.

“We don’t really know what might have caused their symptoms, but as far as we could tell, it had nothing to do with anything in the building,” Salas said.
