I enjoyed your online paper as i was born in Artesia and still have family there. But I no longer will be able to read it. I live in West Texas. Why did you start charging to read it online?
Thank you

There are several reasons why we chose to switch our online content to the eEdition format. First and foremost, the eEdition is the most efficient and cost effective way to deliver our newspaper online. We chose to charge a subscription fee because generating a newspaper takes a lot of time, effort and resources. We could not generate enough online advertising to justify giving away our content for free. We believe the content we create has value and we will continue to support and uphold it’s value. While the eEdition may not be the best news delivery system in the world, we feel it compliments our daily print edition well. Feel free to take a look at our sample eEdition at ee.arteianews.com

I viewed your “Famous Artesians” and noticed that Johnny Gray is not listed. Certainly his astounding record with racing isn’t forgotten….he’s STILL racing and doing a mighty fine job!

That page is certainly a work in progress. If we can find some stats, or if you are able to submit some stats, we would love to add him to our list!

I have to ad mit that I am very disappointed with the lack of local news in the “local” paper this evening. I am not sure what the purpose behind the changes are, but if you are needing something to fill the paper with, why not print up a story on the Firemans Olympics (from a few weeks ago), The National Wildlife Turkey Federation Banquet that was held this past saturday, The concerts to raise money for the shop with a hero program, etc. This would be local news that features some great events that happen in our community. I do hope that this is just a temporary change. Personally, if I wanted to see the print about items happening everywhere else, I would subscribe to a different paper.

There have been a LOT of changes with the Daily Press over the past several months, especially within the past three weeks. We have had several staff discussions about how to get the paper back on track and focused on local news. I hope this past week has shown an improvement. Our new editor Jason is pushing the news room to strictly adhere to deadlines and focus on breaking news and feature stories (you may have read his column in last Sunday’s paper). Next week is the Eddy County Fair and we are certainly dedicated to covering the event with the best of our abilities. We apologize for our shortcomings with those events you mentioned; we are certainly on a mission to refine the newsroom and improve our local coverage.

Ok, I am loving the online edition of the Artesia newspaper. I am glad to see the Artesia Daily making efforts to keep up with technology. However, I have one concern and that is the Sunday newspaper. The sunday edition comes out late, sometimes the next day. I can go a corner convience store and get the sunday news faster than my online edition is published. Technology is supposed to be faster not slower.

I’m sorry. With all the staff changes that have happened over the past month we have been trying to keep up with everything. I completely forgot to teach the new editor how to create PDFs and upload them to the eEdition server. I was out of town this weekend so I could not do it myself. I will do my best to ensure this does not happen again. Thank you for your patience.

Our entire paper is available online through our eEdition at http://www.ee.artesianews.com It may be possible in the future that we will publish selected editorials and letters to the editor in hopes that we can open an online conversation about a topic.
