I enjoyed your online paper as i was born in Artesia and still have family there. But I no longer will be able to read it. I live in West Texas. Why did you start charging to read it online?
Thank you

There are several reasons why we chose to switch our online content to the eEdition format. First and foremost, the eEdition is the most efficient and cost effective way to deliver our newspaper online. We chose to charge a subscription fee because generating a newspaper takes a lot of time, effort and resources. We could not generate enough online advertising to justify giving away our content for free. We believe the content we create has value and we will continue to support and uphold it’s value. While the eEdition may not be the best news delivery system in the world, we feel it compliments our daily print edition well. Feel free to take a look at our sample eEdition at ee.arteianews.com

I viewed your “Famous Artesians” and noticed that Johnny Gray is not listed. Certainly his astounding record with racing isn’t forgotten….he’s STILL racing and doing a mighty fine job!

That page is certainly a work in progress. If we can find some stats, or if you are able to submit some stats, we would love to add him to our list!

I have to ad mit that I am very disappointed with the lack of local news in the “local” paper this evening. I am not sure what the purpose behind the changes are, but if you are needing something to fill the paper with, why not print up a story on the Firemans Olympics (from a few weeks ago), The National Wildlife Turkey Federation Banquet that was held this past saturday, The concerts to raise money for the shop with a hero program, etc. This would be local news that features some great events that happen in our community. I do hope that this is just a temporary change. Personally, if I wanted to see the print about items happening everywhere else, I would subscribe to a different paper.

There have been a LOT of changes with the Daily Press over the past several months, especially within the past three weeks. We have had several staff discussions about how to get the paper back on track and focused on local news. I hope this past week has shown an improvement. Our new editor Jason is pushing the news room to strictly adhere to deadlines and focus on breaking news and feature stories (you may have read his column in last Sunday’s paper). Next week is the Eddy County Fair and we are certainly dedicated to covering the event with the best of our abilities. We apologize for our shortcomings with those events you mentioned; we are certainly on a mission to refine the newsroom and improve our local coverage.

Ok, I am loving the online edition of the Artesia newspaper. I am glad to see the Artesia Daily making efforts to keep up with technology. However, I have one concern and that is the Sunday newspaper. The sunday edition comes out late, sometimes the next day. I can go a corner convience store and get the sunday news faster than my online edition is published. Technology is supposed to be faster not slower.

I’m sorry. With all the staff changes that have happened over the past month we have been trying to keep up with everything. I completely forgot to teach the new editor how to create PDFs and upload them to the eEdition server. I was out of town this weekend so I could not do it myself. I will do my best to ensure this does not happen again. Thank you for your patience.

In the past, I have been able to access your editorials and letters to the editor but do not seem to be able to, now. If I still can, could you pls. let me know what link to use? Or whatever steps are necessary to do this?
Thanks kindly,
Carroll

Our entire paper is available online through our eEdition at http://www.ee.artesianews.com It may be possible in the future that we will publish selected editorials and letters to the editor in hopes that we can open an online conversation about a topic.

In the Thursday edition, on the front page – the DECA photo – the first male in the picture is listed as Dale Garthwaite. His name is Dallas Garthwaite.
In response to the the letter to the editor, I, for one, am very pleased with the LOCAL news being first and foremost. It keeps our community abreast of the activities, good works, and even the not so nice news on things that happen here and the surrounding areas. Keep up the great work.
I would like to see more stories from Kathy Kolt. Her articles have always brought smiles to us, and makes for very interesting reading. Can we get more of her articles in the near future?

I was disappointed to discover that the Family Living section was not included in the e-edition on Sunday. Turns out that my wife was featured in one of the articles; we found out when a friend mentioned seeing it in their print version. Makes me wonder if we’ve been missing other news.
We prefer to subscribe solely to the e-edition to prevent newspapers stacking up in our front yard. Will you be amending the Feb. 5 e-edition to include the missing section?

Wow! Ten games into the season and no coverage for the girls varsity softball team. And by no coverage I mean zero, zilch, nada. There have been numerous articles on the baseball team and even the bracket for their tournament this weekend but no article on the girls home doubleheader this past Tuesday. Sure makes you wonder when you print a bracket for the boys and skip an article on the girls. What is going on? You have been better than this.

Enjoy the online edition and subscribed. Although I would enjoy it more if I could download the whole paper as one pdf and not each page individually. Otherwise it is great.

Why the limited coverage on the spring sports? In the past you have done an excellent job of giving our kids recognition in their home town paper. Now, we have to read the opponents newspaper to read an article about our kids. Something needs to change!

It’s great to see a picture of the Aztec softball team in our paper instead of our baseball or softball team! I guess I need to subscribe to the Aztec or Miyamura newspapers to see a picture of our teams.

Due to some technical problems we were not able to get any pictures of the Artesia teams from State. We hope to have them in Sunday’s edition of the paper.

Seems you would have some pictures on file of our baseball, softball, or track team from this year that you could have run. I really don’t mean to cause problems it just seems awefully insensitive to run a picture of another teams players especially of the team that beat the softball team twice. Just a bad call.

We had some problems getting pictures for Friday’s paper from the sports editor to the office. Sunday’s paper has pictures and stories.

I just subscribed to the e-edition of your paper today and I was reading some back issues. I sincerely hope that the “Did you know” column in the May 11th issue was a joke! most, if not all, of the information there was false! If anyone actually takes the sweating segment seriously they could land in the hospital with acute dehydration.
As a side note, you may want to consider spell checking all of your paper, especially the headlines.
