The Eddy County Sheriff’s Office (ECSO), in cooperation with Crime Stoppers of Eddy County, is requesting the public’s assistance in solving a case of extreme cruelty to animals.

Between 8 a.m. June 9 and 3 p.m. June 11, two cows were shot and killed at 1609 Darn Canyon Road.

ECSO deputies were dispatched at approximately 3 p.m. June 11 and, upon arrival, observed two brown-and-white cows that had been shot and left to die. A more detailed inspection of the scene revealed several spent bullet casings located near the deceased cows.

The total loss is estimated at approximately $2,800.

Anyone with information regarding this crime is asked to contact the ECSO at 575-887-7551 and ask to speak to a detective or, anonymously, Crime Stoppers of Eddy County at 575-887- 1888; by texting the code word StopACrime plus the tip to CRIMES (274637); or through the Tipsoft link at cityofcarlsbadnm.com/police.cfm.

Information leading to an arrest may result in a reward of up to $1,000.
