Algeria soccer death seen part of a wider ills

ALGIERS, Algeria (AP) — The rocks came raining down after the final whistle of the Algerian soccer match, an increasingly common ritual in stadiums across the country. This time, the violence ended in tragedy: Hit in the head, Albert Ebosse, the league’s top goal scorer last season, crumbled to the ground and died in a hospital.

HONOLULU (AP) — A win was about all Chris Petersen got in his coaching debut with No. 25 Washington. Questions about the Huskies’ offense will continue into next week after Saturday night’s 17-16 victory at Hawaii.

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) — A Sioux Falls sports journalist has authored a book on the first Minnesota Vikings team to go to the Super Bowl, which happened in the last year of the old National Football League before pro football’s biggest merger.
