GRADES 6-8 DANCE — There will be a dance for grades 6-8 from 7-10:30 p.m. Friday, May 9, at the Moose Lodge. The dance is sponsored by the Dirty Dogz softball team. Admission is $5 per person.

DRUG TASK FORCE LEGISLATIVE COMMITTEE — The legislative committee of the drug task force will meet at 5:30 p.m. Monday, May 12, at the Chamber of Commerce. All interested persons are invited to attend.

CLASS OF 1968 — There will be a meeting to continue planning for the Class of 1968’s 40th reunion at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 13, at 606 W. Texas Ave. All members of 1968 are welcome to attend.

WATERCOLOR WORKSHOP — Come learn painting skills from Cloudcroft artist Cyndy Nesbit Friday, May 16 through Sunday, May 18. FLAT SCREEN TV TICKETS — Artesia Hospital Auxiliary is selling tickets for a flat screen TV. Tickets are $1 or six for $5. The drawing will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, May 24, at the Artesia General Hospital Health Fair located at the Old Meal Site, 612 N. Eighth St. Winner need not be present. Tickets may be purchased at the Artesia Thrift Shop, 611 N. First St., or from an Auxiliary member. The auxiliary will also have a booth at the health fair where tickets can be purchased along with baked goods, cold sodas and water and free popcorn will be given away.

WOMEN’S CLASS — A class for women is held from 6-7 p.m. every Wednesday at 805 W. Texas Ave. The class is held every week with no cancellations and deals with issues women may face such as low self-esteem, anger management, parenting skills, codependency, etc. Each week, the class discusses different topics. NEW PRISON LIBRARY — Books and other materials are being collected in Artesia and surrounding communities for a new Christ-centered library ministry at the Roswell Correctional Center. Donations of Christian books (Spanish, too), magazines, audio cassettes, CDs, DVDs, VHS tapes, cassette players, CD players, headphones, laptops, living room furniture, card tables as well as help at the library and financial contributions are being accepted. NEW PHONE NUMBER FOR ANIMAL SHELTER — The Artesia Animal Shelter has a new phone number, 746-8860. This number can be called during normal business hours in reference to attempting to locate lost cats and dogs, and for adoptions. The number for the Artesia Animal Control Officer is 746-5000. This number should be called for functions of the Animal Control Officer such as dogs at large, vicious animals or animal bites.

RENTAL, UTILITY OR PRESCRIPTION ASSISTANCE — Southeast NM Community Action Corporation in Artesia has funding to assist with rental, utility or prescription assistance. Applications may be picked up at 1313 Gilchrist Ave. Assistance is also available for applying for LIHEAP assistance. Current office hours are 2-4 p.m., Mondays and Fridays.

COMMUNITY OUTREACH CENTER — The Church of Christ Community Outreach Center at Sixth and Centre streets provides all kinds of household items for free to poor and needy families in Artesia, including fire victims.
