Sacramento Ranger District
| As reported in the February 2008 issue of the Mountain Monthly by reporter Harry Hoge | ||
| Representatives from the Forest Service outnumbered citizens from the area during the Jan. 10 Travel Management Workshop held at The Lodge. Constance Zipperer presented an update of the ongoing process of evaluation, analyzation and change. | ||
| Although final decisions will not be forwarded until later this year, currently proposals include closing 7.2 miles of roads in the Smokey Bear Ranger District and 1.34 miles in the Sacramento Ranger District because of Right of Access (ROW) issues. Additionally, a 1.78-mile stretch of FR 329 and 329B in Sacramento Ranger District will be closed because of resource damage. Twelve trails in the Sacramento District will be changed because of Natural/Cultural Resource damage. Changes include 2.0 miles of trail (#5008D & 5661D) closed; 6.9 miles (a portion of #109, 247E, 5002 and 5003) closed to motorized and made non-motorized, and 16.8 miles of trail (#113, 5007, 5661F, 9277, 9278 and 9278A) opened to ATV along with motorcycle use. | ||
| All proposed action for the Lincoln National Forest motorized travel will be analyzed in an environmental document as defined in Forest Service Handbook 1909.15 Chapter 40. Further, any "no-action" alternative will be analyzed to meet EPA (i.e. EA & EIS) specifications. Proposals will be available in Summer 2008 and the final use map (MVUM) will be issued in October of this year. | ||
