ARTESIA — The Artesia Public Schools Board of Education will meet in regular session at 7 p.m. Monday, Oct. 3.

Included on the agenda for Monday night will be a report by Assistant Superintendent John Ross Null concerning the New Mexico Public Education Department’s 201516 Teacher Evaluation Summative Reports. Assistant Superintendent Thad Phipps will also be seeking the board’s approval to accept a work order for architectural services for areas at Zia Intermediate School that have settled; a reroofing design at Penasco School; and a proposal for the demolition of a residence at 1304 W. Grand Ave.

During the September meeting of the board, Jennifer Facio and Jess Holmes, architects with the Dekker/Perich/Sabatine firm overseeing the new administration building and professional development training center project, addressed the board and reported on the construction progress thus far.

Facio stated that due to the recent rainstorms, the project is a little behind schedule; the construction crew remains busy making clash detention models, mock designs of the walls to detect any anticipated clashes, and getting approval of the submittals as they wait for the soil to dry up.

Facio reported there were minor adjustments to the construction contract due to the removal of a large tree, removal of a portion of a chain link fence, and the removal of a very large concrete footing that was discovered under the soil left over from the natatorium. She and Holmes will return Oct. 13 to begin the furniture and finishes selection process, including a “sit test”

using several chair samples.

Assistant Superintendent Danny Parker announced the district’s school grades and was pleased with the overall results. He explained how school grades are awarded and the data used in determining those grades. Parker also reported the district received no grade lower than a C.

The school grades, reported in late August in the Daily Press, included the following:
