The Chaves County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO) has arrested two Roswell women for embezzlement from a Roswell High School booster club.
Deborah Perry, 58, and Kimberly Guerrero, 43, were arrested Thursday afternoon on two second-degree felony counts of embezzlement (over $20,000) and a third-degree felony charge of tampering with evidence.
The women are accused of embezzling the funds from the RHS Cheerleading Booster Club.
“Booster clubs are common throughout our schools and sports teams,” said Chaves County Sheriff Britt Snyder. “I have personally been the president of the Roswell High Football Booster Club, so I am very familiar with how they operate.
“These clubs should only operate in the best interest of our children. All parents who are involved have an obligation to make sure that any money being raised is accounted for properly and being used for the kids it was intended to help.”
Perry and Guerrero were booked into the Chaves County Adult Detention Center on $5,000 bonds. The case is being handled by the Alamogordo District Attorney’s Office.
“If these clubs cannot be accountable to themselves, the schools, and our children, then I would be the first one to suggest to any school district they must be eliminated,” Snyder said. “This kind of case hurts our children and everybody who has ever tried to do the right thing.”
