The Artesia High School Rodeo Team held a rodeo demonstration Thursday monring at the Artesia Horse Council Arena. The rodeo was held for local fourth-grade students and featured events ranging from barrel racing, calf roping and bull riding. Artesia Horse Council President Trampus Spence educated students about the various aspects of rodeo and explained the importance of working hard, practicing and doing well in school. Following the rodeo, students and rodeo team members – along with New Mexico State Rodeo Queen Alissa Burson – participated in a question and answer session. The students asked questions about injuries and how long each rodeo member has been participating in rodeo. The rodeo ended with students meeting the rodeo team members, who signed autographs and talked with the students one-on-one. (Tyler Green photos)
