ARTESIA — The Artesia Police Department has scheduled another Prescription Drug Take- Back Day which will take place coinciding with National Night Out from 6-9 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 4, at the Artesia Police Department booth in Dr Martin Luther King Jr. Recreation Center (13th and Lolita streets in Artesia). This Drug Take-Back Day provides a safe, convenient, and responsible means of disposal, while also educating the general public about the potential for abuse of medications. Items accepted are: prescriptions, prescription patches, pet medications, ointments, over the counter medications, vitamins and samples.

Items that may be disposed of in proper provided containers are: used and unused sharps. The service is free and anonymous with no questions asked.

Last April many thousands of pounds of prescription drugs were collected at more than 6,100 sites. These were removed from circulation and possible accidental ingestion by children and pets as well as abuse by those that might be caught in that trap.

Directions on home disposal methods will also be available.
