Everyone is invited to see the completed renovation of one of Artesia’s treasures — the Sallie Chisum House — from 4-7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 2, at 805 W. Texas Ave. in recognition of National Domestic Violence Awareness Month.
“I made a stand for women’s rights here (in Artesia) in a way. Women who were mistreated, they and their children found a place to stay with me.
