The sporadic, gusty winds that blew through Artesia Sunday afternoon, quickly collecting sand from open fields and construction sites, formed several “dust devils” that stripped shingles from the rooftop of the Centre Avenue Baptist Church, below, and lifted chairs and canopies into the air at Jaycee Park. Additionally, the wind added fuel to a combustion fire at Creekside Dairy, above, late Sunday afternoon. The Artesia Fire Department was dispatched and was able to break the large stacks of alfalfa into small mounds away from the barn, preventing extensive damage. Grace Miller – Daily Press
