Students in Kimberly Combs’ second-grade class at Roselawn Elementary School hit the playground today to find plenty of jump ropes provided by Stormy Gibbs, membership manager of the Girls Scouts of the Desert Southwest. The jump rope program is currently scheduled for the Thursday recess hour at Roselawn and the Tuesday recess hour at Hermosa Elementary School for six weeks. The program is designed to help increase children’s recess physical activity along with their developmental math, with counting and coordination of motor skills. The Girl Scouts are also encouraging girls to join the scouting program. Artesia currently has 200 girls active in the program. Funding is in place to pay the $15 dollar registration fee for interested girls. For more information, contact Gena Ingram, program manager, at 748-1120.
