In the hopes of receiving a full reimbursement, Mayor Phillip Burch and City Clerk Aubrey Hobson approached the Eddy County Commission Tuesday morning to request payment for the direct costs resulting from the use of the city’s fire department, animal control and transfer station to aid county residents outside of Artesia’s city limits.
“All we’re asking for is a review of the numbers in terms of what’s being incurred for the benefit of the county and ask for your consideration to be reimbursed next year,” Burch said. “If you look at where we were in the budget five years ago compared to this year, we’ve seen an 8 percent increase in five years.
