Grown with hometown pride, Jeremy Maupin feels there is more to teaching students inside of the classroom than what they can learn from textbooks.
Maupin teaches sixth- and seventh-grade Social Studies as well as coaches basketball at Artesia (Zia) Intermediate School. He is also a football coach at Artesia (Park) Junior High School and a baseball coach at Artesia High School. … For the rest of the story, subscribe in print and on the web.
While he was a student at AHS, Maupin said his favorite teachers included both the Houghtalings as well as his history teacher, Dale Bohannon.
“He had a lot of applicable lessons,” Maupin said. “I had him as my government teacher my senior year, which was the 2004 election year. There were so many projects, and it was my first time being involved in politics.
“He got me to see both sides of the story/argument. That’s how I want to teach, not to throw my beliefs at anyone but to allow them to make their own decisions and form their own beliefs.
“I also love sports, so I wanted to coach. I played here, and I love the atmosphere here.”
