ARTESIA — The Artesia Community Theatre invites the public to attend a musical melodrama that is sure to entertain and keep audience members of all ages laughing: “Alas! Alack! Zorro’s Back!”
The play – based on a book by Tim Kelly with music and lyrics by David Reiser and produced in arrangement with Pioneer Drama Service – will be presented at 2 p.m. today and at 7:30 p.m. Sept. 13-15 at the Ocotillo Performing Arts Center. … For the rest of the story, subscribe in print and on the web.

In “Alas! Alack! Zorro’s Back!”, a little love, a little cheating, an inheritance and a fiesta featuring live mariachi music Mariachi Unido combine to equal a fun experience for the entire family.
The characters include the villainous Buck Badum (Kirk Daniel) who “owns” the town, Sheriff Toady (Brent Hammett), his crooked sidekick, Conchita (Maria L. Almanza) the saloon girl, Don Alfredo (Jess Briggs), who has lost his ranchero, Senora De La Guitar (Christine Swafford), his wife, the Widder Jones (Becky Terpening) and her daughter, Lucinda (Melanie Dippel), who are poor and hungry, Alice Sweepup (Shelia Daniel) the hotel maid, and Aunt Victoria (Laney Rountree) and her nephew Henry (James Bennett), who have traveled to Old New Mexico from California to find an heiress on a very bumpy stagecoach ride.
The performance also includes a Sashay Girl (Kimi Bennett) and Young Caballero (Jimi Bennett) to keep the crowd involved.
