Eddy County Commissioners, City of Carlsbad officials and detention personnel gathered this morning for a ribbon cutting ceremony at the newly renovated Eddy County Detention Center (ECDC) and newly constructed Juvenile Detention Center (JDC) in Carlsbad.
The construction of the new JDC enabled the old juvenile center to be renovated into a Women’s Detention Center, creating 62 beds for female inmates. The ECDC also underwent a renovation, seeing a 30-bed increase for a total of 232 beds.
Located across the street from the ECDC, the new JDC is capable of housing 26 juveniles. Also added were a special housing cell, two recreation yards and storage facilities. … For the rest of the story, subscribe in print and on the web.
