A fire that broke out in an empty hangar at the Artesia Municipal Airport on Monday, and reportedly was responsible for the death of Joe Perez Moreno III, is still under investigation, according to Sgt. Lindell Smith of the Artesia Police Department.

The police, along with the New Mexico Fire Marshall and the Occupational Safety and Health Administration, are investigating the incident.

“There are many facts and much evidence to gather at the scene of the incident along with other types of records and documents,” Smith said. “Eventually, over the course of time, these three entities will determine the exact manner and cause of the incident.”
