The Artesia Police Department gave a presentation Friday at the Artesia High School Auditorium on the threat of armed attacks on schools. The assembly was the first part of an upcoming campaign to inform the public on steps that would be taken in the event of school violence such as that which struck Roswell’s Berrendo Middle School in January.

The campaign, which Artesia school resource officers have been planning for the past 18 months, includes a PSA funded by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security. The PSA was shown to an audience of more than 150 teachers and staff Friday and suggests three steps in the event of an active shooting incident at one of Artesia’s 10 public schools. … For the rest of the story, subscribe in print and on the web.
