Beginning Saturday morning at the Artesia Center, the Ride for Bikes workshop assembled 500-plus bikes for Head Start children in Artesia, Hagerman, Dexter and Carlsbad. The center was filled with the sounds of a true Santa’s workshop as organizers of the Navajo Refining charity organization and numerous volunteers made the effort a true success.

In speaking with several of the children on hand to help out, a few were previous bike recipients who remembered what it felt like to receive the bike when they attended Head Start, and all of them were fully on board to “pay it forward” for another child to receive that same gift. … For the rest of the story, subscribe in print and on the web.
