When Raquel Montoya of the USDA’s Emergency Watershed Protection (EWP) program approached the County Commission Tuesday, things got complicated for her.

Members of the commission had approached the EWP in September about receiving aid in repairing flood damage in Eddy County, but the government shutdown last month left the EWP unable to visit Eddy County until the commission’s most recent meeting.

The deadline for the commission to submit a sponsor letter to request assistance from the EWP is looming, but it seems nothing can be done for Lakewood, which saw the evacuation of the SKP Mobile Park in September due to the floods that struck Eddy County. … For the rest of the story, subscribe in print and on the web.
