Phase I of the 13th Street Reconstruction Project is expected to begin in two weeks, after more than two years of planning. The project has been divided into four phases, with large sections of one of Artesia’s most heavily-used roads receiving a complete makeover from the City of Artesia, Smith Engineering and AUI Inc.
At a cost of $9 million, Phase I will take approximately four months to complete and will cover 13th Street between Main Street and Eagle Draw. All four phases combined will take an estimated 21 months to complete and will renovate 13th Street from Main Street to Richey Avenue. The only omission to the project through the length of the renovations will be the bridge over Eagle Draw, which would have cost $2 million to renovate if included in the building contract. … For the rest of the story, subscribe in print and on the web.
