Volunteer fire chiefs from 11 districts throughout Eddy attended the County Commission meeting today to argue against a plan by Emergency Services Manager Joel Arnwine to absorb the county’s volunteer fire departments into the county’s emergency services.

Arnwine’s proposed provisions would give Eddy County’s Emergency Services Department the authority to supersede that of volunteer fire chiefs, restrict their range of services barring approval from Arnwine, and give the Emergency Services manager power to discipline volunteer fire officials if they do not meet the county’s standards or refuse to abide by the proposed mandates. … For the rest of the story, subscribe in print and on the web.
