Work has begun on the unwrapping of the recently installed Peter Hurd mural at the new Artesia Public Library. The outer and inner support cages of the mural have been removed, and David Olin of Olin Conservators is in Artesia to take his first look at the piece. He and his crew will begin the process of removing linen from the face of the mural today, a slow process that should be completed by Friday. After the linen and shellac are removed, the mural will be visible in it most original state, close to how it looked when Hurd was painting it. Olin Conservators, which is occupied with projects in the Washington, D.C., area will return to Artesia to complete the full restoration in January.Grace Miller – Daily Press ADP Staff Join the Artesia Daily Press Newsletter Stay informed with the latest Artesia news and updates, directly in your inbox.
