Big Brothers Big Sisters welcomed a small but happy crowd to its Family Fun Day Out Saturday afternoon at Hotel Artesia.

Attendees participated in a variety of activities, from karaoke to “Water Wars” provided by John and Tammy Neel under the tent at the hotel.

“I’m pleased to see my previous matches come out and have some fun together and gain a few new ‘bigs,’” said Staci Heacox of Big Brothers, Big Sisters. “It’s a small crowd, but they had a great time, and this is why we do what we do.”

New “bigs” John and Christine Cearley said they were excited to attend the event.

“We both wanted to come out and have discussed becoming a part of the program for some time now,” said John. “Hearing about the event, we came to get more information and join in on the fun.”

“Being a ‘big,’ we can help make a difference and be good role models for a child,” said Christine. “You can always have more, and we have lots of love to give!”

“This is our first year, and it has been a great program for Kailene,” said LaShawn Hansen, mother of “little” Kailene Ryals. “When she knows she has a date and time set up to see her ‘big,’ Brandi Shetterly, she is counting down the days. Brandi is great to and for her. It gives Kailene a sense of confidence that she has someone else around that makes her feel special.”
