The Artesia City Council decided to disband the Artesia Volunteer Fire Department at its Tuesday meeting, with Councilor Jose Aguilar giving the sole dissenting vote.
“A community this size can’t survive without volunteers,” said Aguilar.  “If we start getting rid of volunteers, we don’t have a community with a sense of ownership or involvement.  Volunteers do what they do because they have pride, and we should be grateful.  We have to assist them. … For the rest of the story, subscribe in print and on the web.
