Artesia and the surrounding areas were grateful over the past few days to receive a significant amount of much-needed rainfall, temporarily assuaging the extreme dry conditions just in time for the Fourth of July and giving residents a break from recent triple-digit temperatures, with a 75-degree reading at noon today. Above, the Felix River bed north of Hagerman was running Monday at a level residents report having not seen in years. Another flash storm Monday in Artesia had streets and Eagle Draw running, bringing totals since Sunday night reported from the NMSU Ag Science Center to 1.1 inches and from the Artesia Airport to 1.62 inches. A 20-percent chance of additional showers is forecast through Independence Day. Photo Courtesy Jennifer Coats, Jennifer Coats Photography
