Bobbie Goodloe, president of the Altrusa Club of Artesia, presents Dr. Eric Jensen, Artesia Literacy Council president, with the club’s proceeds from the live auction held at the inaugural Taste of the Pecos Valley to Fight Domestic Violence event, held in October 2012 in partnership with Grammy’s House. Literacy has long been a focus for Altrusa International; therefore, the club decided to give its proceeds to the ALC. Since 1995, the ALC has been offering adults no-cost, one-on-one tutoring in basic literacy, English as a second language, pre-GED and U.S. citizenship studies. The council continues to help many adults achieve their goals and enrich their lives. Also pictured are, from left, ALC members Marge Harden, tutor; Keith Kostlan, tutor; Vega Nilsson, director coordinator/tutor; and Alma Grado, tutor. Not pictured are Ivonne Flores, tutor, and Twyla Spinnelli, tutor. Courtesy Photo
