Representatives with Devon Energy join Artesia (Zia) Intermediate School science teachers Jessica Sanders and Jawna Carlo and Principal Jim Moore this morning to present the school with a $15,000 Devon Science Giants Award for demonstrating excellence in science education. For Sanders, Carlo and the rest of Zia, the grant came as a completely unexpected surprise. According to a press release, Devon launched the award to recognize schools for helping students excel in science and preparing them for college and future careers. Along with the $15,000 grant for Zia, Devon will also be giving a $5,000 grant to PR Leyva Middle School in Carlsbad this afternoon. Moore said the grant will go toward purchasing 10 new iPads for each classroom, giving students a more interactive learning experience than before. Rob Larson – Daily Press
