Artesia High School’s new math teacher and varsity baseball coach, Jerry Burleson, wants students to know they can accomplish anything through discipline and hard work.
Burleson graduated from Texas Tech University in 1988 with a Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering. He then spent the next 17 years in the plastics industry prior to teaching. … For the rest of the story, subscribe in print and on the web.
Burleson left his job in plastics after realizing he was meant to be a teacher. He then taught math and chemistry for 10 years at Midland Christian School in Midland, Texas.
“I was good at math and science in school, so I went into chemistry,” said Burleson. “After 17 years, I realized that’s not what God called me to do. He called me to be in kids’ lives. An opportunity opened up in Midland and before I knew it, I was teaching and coaching and it was obvious that is where my passion is.
