Through a brief presentation to the Eddy County Commission Tuesday, Artesia MainStreet’s Rebecca Prendergast discussed what her program has accomplished in the past year and plans on doing soon to help beautify, maintain and enrich downtown Artesia.
A big talking point in Prendergast’s presentation was the completion of soon-to-be-thoroughly-renovated Baish Park. Prendergast said construction will finish in roughly two weeks, and an official dedication ceremony will be held Nov. 12. … For the rest of the story, subscribe in print and on the web.
Prendergast said the official dedication ceremony is still being planned, primarily by the veterans’ program, but Artesians can expect to see a presentation by the color guard, a raising of flags – possibly with an American flag that once flew over the White House – and some special guests. The artist who created the Freedom’s Fire sculpture, “which was the impetus for the park’s renovation,” will also be present.
“Within the next week or so, we’ll have some more substantial plans nailed down,” Prendergast said. “It’s one of the first public plazas built in New Mexico in the last 20 years. So, from an architectural standpoint, this park is a big project.”
