According to the proclamation, while using personal fireworks is an American tradition used to celebrate our nation’s birthday, fire is a serious public safety concern on the Fourth of July. Nationally, twice as many fires are reported on July 4 than on any other day of the year. In 2010 alone, there were 8,600 firework-related injuries. Also, the region is experiencing severely dry conditions, and irresponsible use of fireworks can cause devastating consequences to public and private lands.
