Artesia firefighters responded to a call at 6:48 a.m. Tuesday morning in reference to a house and garage fire at 2505 W. Richey Ave. No one was injured. According to Artesia Fire Chief J.D. Hummingbird, the fire appeared to have started in the garage area. No one was injured, but there has been significant damage to the property. What caused the fire is still under investigation. “It was a typical structural fire for us, but it was a little hard to put out one (of the two) vehicles in the garage,” Hummingbird said. “We actually had to drag one of them out of the garage to fully extinguish it because it was leaking fuel. And without cutting off the fuel, we couldn’t put it out completely.” When Hummingbird spoke to the Artesia Daily Press, at roughly 10:30 a.m., firefighters were still on the scene.
