Arts in the Park forced to find new venue

A request for permission to use Central Park for the annual Arts in the Park in October was denied during Tuesday’s city council meeting.
The request was of special concern to the fire and police department heads, who voiced their unease over the pedestrian safety and traffic issues.
“I think it would be safer to hold it in some other area,” said J.D. Hummingbird, fire chief. “One square block for 5,000 people is not enough space.”
Laura Stevens was present at the meeting to represent the Artesia Arts Council. She explained that the event, which attracts from 50-100 vendors each year, was moved to Martin Luther King Park in the ’90s without much success. … For the rest of the story, subscribe in print and on the web.
