Thanks to a lucky lottery ticket, an Artesia family will share a $10,000 Powerball prize.

Steve Muñoz, his son-in-law, James Dawson, and a neice, Sophia Muñoz, played the Powerball lottery game together for the first time and walked away with a hefty reward.

Their ticket for the game’s May 25 drawing matched the red Powerball and five of the six numbered white balls.  The winners, who selected their ticket numbers, missed the game’s $144 million jackpot by one number.

“When I saw that my play slip had five of the six winning numbers, I started to scream,” Sophia Muñoz recalled for lottery officials in Albuquerque. “I thought there’s no way this could be true.” … For the rest of the story, subscribe in print and on the web.
