As rescue and recovery work continues in tornado-ravaged Joplin, Mo., relief efforts are under way in Artesia thanks to two local citizens with ties to the battered town.
Amanda Baggerly and Kevin Hartley are gathering goods and donations to be distributed to victims of the EF5 tornado that tore through the southwest Missouri city of 50,000 Sunday evening and left at least 122 dead and 750 injured.
For Baggerly, it is a personal calling to provide relief; her father’s side of her family is from the area.
“I’ve heard people tell me about how people need things and in my guts I’ve been feeling like I need to be there, helping,” said Baggerly. … For the rest of the story, subscribe in print and on the web.
Items can be delivered to 1208 S. 18th St. or West Main Baptist Church. For more information, contact Baggerly by calling 513-6133 or Hartley by calling 365-7312.
